Waunakee Village Board April 2021 Election

As of this afternoon, I'm happy to say that I have submitted the initial paperwork to formally start my run for Waunakee Village Trustee. The next step is to gather nomination signatures between now and January 5, 2021. The requirement is only 20 signatures, which is typically pretty easy to acquire, however, during COVID-19, this becomes a significantly more difficult task. The Colbert Questionert

I was just watching A Late Show with Stephen Colbert from Friday, January 8th, where Stephen started asking Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, and George Clooney the questions from his Colbert Questionert . It occurred to me that while there's nothing scientific about these questions, and certainly nothing that should influence your vote, it might be fun to share my answers. Signing Nomination Papers

UPDATE 12/31/2020: Nomination papers have been signed and turned in. Thank you to everyone who made themselves available to sign! COVID-19 has created an interesting challenge for candidates for public office. Not only are the standard door to door campaign activities frowned upon, but even gathering the necessary signatures to appear on the ballot has become tricky. Luckily, there is a solution. In my case, I am providing a link to a printable PDF, along with instructions for signing and completing the form, along with several options for getting the form to me for submission to the village prior to the Tuesday, January 5 deadline. It's official!

I dropped off my nomination papers this morning at the Waunakee Village Hall. What that means is that unless an excessive number of the signatures on those papers are deemed invalid (unlikely, since most had signed in previous years, and were deemed valid in those years), all of the paperwork that needs to be filed by January 5, 2021 for my candidacy has been completed. Next steps depend highly on the number of candidates running. As of today , based on the information on the Village of Waunakee web site , as well as my own knowledge, the following four people are intending to run for the three seats on the village board (in order of paperwork being filed): Joe Zitzelsberger - Previous Trustee from 2018-2020. Lost re-election in 2020, coming in 4th out of 5 candidates . Joe has lived in Waunakee since 2005. Phil Willems - Incumbent, having held the seat for well over a decade.
