The Colbert Questionert

I was just watching A Late Show with Stephen Colbert from Friday, January 8th, where Stephen started asking Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, and George Clooney the questions from his Colbert Questionert. It occurred to me that while there's nothing scientific about these questions, and certainly nothing that should influence your vote, it might be fun to share my answers. I hope you find something interesting.

1. What is the best sandwich?
Grilled ham and turkey with cheddar cheese, thinly sliced apples, and just a bit of strawberry mayo on a seeded whole wheat bread. (Note: this is basically a slightly modified version of the Sir Issac Turkey from Cool Beans Coffee Cafe on Madison's East side.)

2. What's one thing you own that you should really throw out?
A whole lot of my wardrobe, but I'm planning bariatric surgery in early 2021, so I'll hang on to it so I have something to wear as I shrink.

3. What is the scariest animal?
The only thing I know is that even though there are animals that make me cringe, I still haven't encountered the scariest animal yet. It probably lives deep in the ocean - or worse yet, deep in the ground.

4. Apples or Oranges?
Apples...because I need them for my sandwich in question #1.

5. Have you ever asked someone for their autograph?
Absolutely. A whole bunch. Still have autographs from Michael Damien, Blessid Union of Souls, and others, mainly from my days on-air at WIFC-FM, Wausau.

6. What do you think happens when we die?
In my case, I think some people become very sad, some people celebrate, and I become a pile of ashes. The end.

7. Favorite action movie?
Die Hard. And it's not Christmas until I see Hans Gruber fall from Nakatomi Tower.

8. What's your favorite smell?
The ocean breeze from the highest and most forward deck of a Disney Cruise ship in transit.

9. What's your least favorite smell?
Diesel exhaust. It burns my nostrils something fierce!

10. Exercise. Worth it?
Sure. But that doesn't make it easy or always productive.

11. Flat or Sparkling?
Sparkling

12. Most used app on your phone?
Totally not exciting...Gmail.

13. You get one song to listen to for the rest of your life. What is it?
What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong

14. What number is Stephen Colbert thinking of?
53

15. Describe the rest of your life in five words.
Hopefully longer than I deserve.

Signing Nomination Papers

UPDATE 12/31/2020: Nomination papers have been signed and turned in. Thank you to everyone who made themselves available to sign! COVID-19 has created an interesting challenge for candidates for public office.  Not only are the standard door to door campaign activities frowned upon, but even gathering the necessary signatures to appear on the ballot has become tricky.  Luckily, there is a solution.  In my case, I am providing a link to a printable PDF, along with instructions for signing and completing the form, along with several options for getting the form to me for submission to the village prior to the Tuesday, January 5 deadline. Here's the process: Download and print the PDF version of the nomination form:   Nomination Paper for Nonpartisan Office (Prefilled) .  The second page simply has some instructions, so there's no need to print it, if you don't want to. If you don't have a printer, or are unable to print the form, let me know, and I can drop one off (conta

It's official!

I dropped off my nomination papers this morning at the Waunakee Village Hall. What that means is that unless an excessive number of the signatures on those papers are deemed invalid (unlikely, since most had signed in previous years, and were deemed valid in those years), all of the paperwork that needs to be filed by January 5, 2021 for my candidacy has been completed. Next steps depend highly on the number of candidates running.  As of today , based on the information on the Village of Waunakee web site , as well as my own knowledge, the following four people are intending to run for the three seats on the village board (in order of paperwork being filed): Joe Zitzelsberger - Previous Trustee from 2018-2020.  Lost re-election in  2020, coming in 4th out of 5 candidates . Joe has lived in Waunakee since 2005. Phil Willems  - Incumbent, having held the seat for well over a decade.  Phil has a long history of doing great things for Waunakee, and has lived here since 1975 Robert McPhers
